The Beginning ...
I started racing nine years ago as an owner/driver. Working my way up
through various NASCAR divisions I began to realize that the sport could
easily become all consuming and very selfish. So in 2005 I decided to stop
racing. Realizing that I could spend my time and money helping others it
seemed to me I had more constructive uses for my resources.
Several friends of mine from Church of Abundant Life encouraged me to get
back into racing. I thought and prayed on it for several months. I believe God
then put it in my heart to start the Abundant Life Race Charity. For this was a
way to take my resources and my gift for racing and use it to help others. So
in 2006, with the support of Pastor Ron Ray and a group of people from my
church, I started the ALRC. Our purpose is to raise money through
sponsorship and donations to support mission trips. 100% of all money raised
through this effort goes to support the mission trips. To do this we race a
Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR ProStock division at Thompson
Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut.
The Abundant Life Race Charity is growing, but it remains an all volunteer ministry. In addition to the Crew, we now have a staff of six men
and women who are helping to populate our website and raise awareness. We have several sponsors who believe in our cause and are
developing our web site and printed materials at no charge.
Last year we helped fund missions trips to Uganda, Africa and an India outreach.
The following excerpt is a letter from a member of the missions team as they describe the situation in Uganda and what the Church of
Abundant Life Mission of Hope mission team accomplished:
“Uganda has endured the scourge of civil war and the deadly AIDS epidemic. Approximately 1.7 million children in Uganda have been
orphaned by these calamities. Each day too many precious children die from AIDS. Currently there are over 880,000 Ugandan children
living as orphans as a result of AIDS. We become a part of their story. Prior to Watoto these children had no food, no shelter, no family and
no hope. Now they have a future. The mission of Watoto Childcare Ministries is to raise the next generation of Ugandan leaders by placing
parentless children in families where the necessary love, care, spiritual discipleship and physical needs are provided. They are currently
responsible for over 1300 children; their goal is to care for 10,000 children in the future. We want to help them. In response, our church
took both a medical and construction team to assist Watoto in reaching their goals. During our time in Africa, our construction team will
built two classrooms. Our medical team comprised of a doctor, a nurse and medical assistants that work with the Watoto doctors at village
clinics. We also had classes for all the mothers in first aid.
